Apple Honours the Life of Muhammad Ali on its Homepage

Apple recently updated the homepage of its website with a tribute to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, who died on Friday at age 74. Ali was admitted to a hospital earlier in the week due to respiratory ailments, which were further complicated due to a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

The tribute on Apple’s website includes a quote that reads, “The man who has no imagination has no wings.” Apple has been a long-time supporter and admirer of Ali, showcasing the boxer in one of its famous “Think Different” campaign videos back in 1997.

App Store prices set to increase in South Africa

App Store prices set to increase in South Africa

Apple have sent an email to developers informing them that there will be a price increase in four countries including South Africa. Below is the email Apple sent out.

“Hi [Developer],

We sometimes need to update prices on the App Store whenever taxes or foreign exchange rates change. Within the next 36 hours, prices will increase in the following App Store territories:

  • Mexico
  • South Africa
  • South Korea
  • Turkey

Because of the price increases, customers with auto-renewable subscriptions on the South African, South Korean, and Turkish App Store will need to resubscribe. However, although the prices are also changing for subscriptions on the Mexican App Store, we won’t interrupt those.

We’ll send an email to your subscribers in these territories shortly before their subscription renews to let them know that the price of their existing subscription will increase. The email also has a link that will let customers resubscribe, or in Mexico, turn their subscription off.

In addition, we’re also adding two new low-price tiers, Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B, for the Indian, Indonesian, Mexican, Russian, South African, and Turkish App Store. We’ll update prices for existing apps and In-App Purchases that already use the Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B price tiers on the Chinese App Store.

You’ll be able to review the new prices in the updated price-tier matrix in Rights and Pricing in My Apps within the next 36 hours.

Apple officially in South Africa (Updated)

Apple officially in South Africa (Updated)

We heard rumours that Apple was officially in South Africa. We have received confirmation from Cellcity that the rumours are true.

We don’t know any details or what that means for the Core Group. As we find information we will keep you updated.

Update

We have learnt that Apple’s presence in South Africa is to manage relationships with mobile opporators which has previously been handled from Europe.

The Core Group will still handle the distribution of all Apple products except the iPhone.

Although Apple’s presence might not mean anything for consumers at the moment it is positive signs that we could see Apple becoming more involved in South Africa in the future.

Apple Acquire Beats Music & Beats Electronics

Apple Acquire Beats Music & Beats Electronics

Apple today announced it has agreed to acquire the critically acclaimed subscription streaming music service Beats Music, and Beats Electronics, which makes the popular Beats headphones, speakers and audio software. As part of the acquisition, Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple. Apple is acquiring the two companies for a total of $3 billion.

Apple is rumoured to be extremely interested in Beats Music subscription service however no new information is available concerning what Apple will do with Beats.

The entire Beats staff will be joining Apple and will work for Apple under Eddie Cue who oversees Apple’s content stores including the iTunes Store, the App Store and the iBookstore, as well as Siri, Maps, iAd and Apple’s iCloud services.

Traditionally when Apple purchases a company the company falls under Apple’s branding and becomes totally Apple however is it difficult to see how Apple in incorporate Beats. We will most likely get some more information during WWDC next week.

Sources suggest that Apple will keep the Beats Music apps running on Android and Windows.

Apple Are Never First to Market

Apple Are Never First to Market

Here is a lesson in Marketing and understanding Apple. We have posted about this before.

During the question and answer portion of today’s financial earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained why the company has been slow to put products out in 2014, pointing towards the company’s attention to detail and its desire to “perform at a really high level of quality” that Apple’s customers expect.

Cook noted that Apple did not ship the first MP3 player, smartphone, or tablet, but he said that the company did release the first “acceptable” and “modern” smartphone, tablet, and MP3 player when it launched the iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

“We care about every detail and it takes us a bit longer to do that. That’s always been the case,” he said. “It means more to us to get it right than to be first.”

Cook pointed towards examples in the marketplace where the clear objective was to be first, possibly referring to Samsung and its poorly received Galaxy Gear smart watch. Apple customers “want great, insanely great,” said Cook, and “that’s what we want to deliver.”

According to Cook, Apple has many products in the pipeline that the company is excited about, but it is not yet ready to “pull the string on the curtain.” He did say, however, that Apple has expanded the number of things the company is working on behind the scenes.

f you ever wondered why Apple doesn’t release product with the latest technology…. It’s because they want to perfect it and make it work properly before they put it into their products and frustrate their customers.

Apple may not have released the first MP3 play but they sure did make the best. They may not have released the first Smartphone but they sure make the best. They may not have released the first Tablet but they sure make the best.

Apple Records Best Ever Q2 Financial Results

Apple Records Best Ever Q2 Financial Results

Apple announced financial results for the first calendar quarter and second fiscal quarter of 2014. For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $45.6 billion and net quarterly profit of $10.2 billion, the best ever Q2 financial results Apple has recorded.

While many are predicting the demise of Apple, Apple seems to be growing and making more money than ever. You begin to wonder what data these people are looking at?

During the announcement Apple said that they would spilt their stocks 7 for 1, For every one stock a shareholder currently owned they will receive an additional 6 shares and the share price will drop to $80. Also Apple will pay dividend of $3.29 per share on the 12 May 2014 and Apple will spend $30 Billion buying it’s own shares back.

The most amazing thing is that Apple still have over $150 Billion on hand. That’s enough money to buy Facebook without talking a loan…
