9 September Media Event Update: iPhone 6, iWatch

Rumours are abuzz with news about Apple’s 9 September Media Event. The event hasn’t been confirmed by Apple but they should send out invitations to media on 2 September where we might get some clues about what will happen during the media event. Here is an update on the rumours about what Apple will be revealing at the Media Event on the 9 September.

iPhone 6

There is no doubt that Apple will unveil two models of iPhone 6, a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch model. We are still unsure when the 5.5 inch model will be available . The 4.7 inch is likely to go on sale on the 19 September in the US, UK, Australia and some other countries. It is expected to get to South Africa in November.

We have already seen mock up of the iPhone 6 and most likely won’t be surprised at the physical look of the iPhone 6. Apple are most likely to reveal some new software advancements in iOS 8 that they haven’t already revealed.

Recent rumours suggest that Apple might include NFC into the iPhone 6 and reveal their mobile payment solution. There is very little information about the inclusion of NFC but it has been rumoured for a number of years.

iWatch

A recent rumour that started with Re/code, who have a perfect track record, suggest that Apple will unveil their long awaited iWatch however it won’t be available until next year.

According to Re/code, the device will “make good use” of both HealthKit and HomeKit, two sets of APIs that were introduced during WWDC. HealthKit, which ties into Apple’s iOS 8 Health app, focuses on health and fitness, while HomeKit is a home automation platform designed to allow users to control a variety connected devices.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5S is expected to feature a design that is similar to the iPhone 5, but with a number of improvements. It is rumored to include a fingerprint sensor, an upgraded 12-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, and iOS 7. iOS 7 & Mac OS X 10.9 to be released at WWDC

Apple has begun putting up internal banners for WWDC at Moscone Center. Apple had previously confirmed that it would announce iOS 7 at WWDC.

iOS 7, WWDC

The design of the banner is very different to previous banners of iOS7 and shows the minimalistic feel that iOS 7 will have. Jonathon Ive took over design of iOS 7 toward the end of last year and is said to be interested in simplifying the design of iOS and make it look more like the physical design of Apple products.

At the same time a banner for Mac OS X 10.9 also appeared and also carriers a simple design unlike previous years. Apple will also announce 10.9 at WWDC.

Mac OS X 10.9, WWDC

The font on both banners appears to be Helvetica Neue Ultra Light, an extremely thin variant of Helvetica, Helvetica is the default font for all iPhone, iPad and iPod’s. It will be interesting to see if Apple start using this Neue Ultra Light version with iOS 7 and OS X

Apple getting ready for WWDC

Apple has begun decorating the Moscone Center ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference next week. WWDC will be the first event that Apple will host in 2013.

WWDC, Apple South Africa

Apple is expected to give a preview of iOS 7 and OSX 10.9 during the event so that developers can get the apps ready for the release later in the year.

New Macbook’s and Macbook Airs are expected to be announced during the media event on Monday 10 June. There is still speculation as to whether or not Apple will announce the long awaited new Mac Pro. Being a developers conference and that developers are the biggest uses or Mac Pro we suspect that Apple will release the Mac Pro during the conference.
