iTunes Match now available in South Africa

Along with the announcement of the iPhone 5 availability and the iTunes music store in South Africa, Apple have also enabled iTunes Match in South Africa.

iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 26 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are your music is already in iCloud. And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes uploads what it can’t match (which is much faster than uploading your entire music library). Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.

iTunes Match is available in South Africa for R199

During all the excitement yesterday of Apple announcing that the iPhone 5 would be available in South Africa on the 14 December, Apple did something else….. They launched a music store in iTunes for South Africa.

This has been on the request list of many people for a number of years and there have been many rumours of it in the past but now it is finally here.

Most songs are priced at about R8.99 and albums for about R89.99. There are exceptions, Coldplay’s album “My Xyloto” is selling for R49.99 for 14 songs, which works out to about R3.22 per song yet each song is selling for R8.99.

Here is the official announcement:
