App Store prices set to increase in South Africa

Apple have sent an email to developers informing them that there will be a price increase in four countries including South Africa. Below is the email Apple sent out.

“Hi [Developer],

We sometimes need to update prices on the App Store whenever taxes or foreign exchange rates change. Within the next 36 hours, prices will increase in the following App Store territories:

  • Mexico
  • South Africa
  • South Korea
  • Turkey

Because of the price increases, customers with auto-renewable subscriptions on the South African, South Korean, and Turkish App Store will need to resubscribe. However, although the prices are also changing for subscriptions on the Mexican App Store, we won’t interrupt those.

We’ll send an email to your subscribers in these territories shortly before their subscription renews to let them know that the price of their existing subscription will increase. The email also has a link that will let customers resubscribe, or in Mexico, turn their subscription off.

In addition, we’re also adding two new low-price tiers, Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B, for the Indian, Indonesian, Mexican, Russian, South African, and Turkish App Store. We’ll update prices for existing apps and In-App Purchases that already use the Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B price tiers on the Chinese App Store.

You’ll be able to review the new prices in the updated price-tier matrix in Rights and Pricing in My Apps within the next 36 hours.

Apple sends out invites for 16 October event

Apple will be holding a media event on Thursday, October 16 at the Town Hall auditorium on its Cupertino headquarters campus, with the company today sending out media invitations for the event. The event begins at 10:00 AM Pacific, and the invitations carry the tagline “It’s been way too long”.

We’re expecting new versions of the iPad Air and the iPad mini. The new Air will be slightly thinner, but come with theA8 processor, new M8 chip from the iPhone 6, Touch ID, enhanced camera features, an improved screen design, and, of course, a gold color option. It’s likely that the new Mini will pick up some (if not all) of the Air’s new features. Hopefully at least the gold.

Apple has been racing to finish up the redesigned OS X Yosemite alongside new laptops and desktops with higher-resolution screens. It’s likely that Yosemite will be released for free on the Mac App Store on the day of the event, as this will follow patterns of previous years. Along with the launch of Yosemite their will be updates to iTunes, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and iPhoto which will be renamed Photos.

In terms of hardware, sources say that Apple is preparing both a new iMac and a 12-inch MacBook with Retina displays. The latest indicators point to, at least, the MacBook being short on supply, so perhaps the MacBook discussion will be saved for a later date. Another Mac potentially to be updated next week: the Mac mini.

How to Remove U2 Album, Songs of Innocence, from iTunes Account

During Apple’s keynote announcement, the company announced plans to provide U2’s new album, “Songs of Innocence,” to all iTunes customers for free. Rather than letting customers choose to download the album on their own, however, Apple pushed it to iTunes accounts, causing some devices to automatically download the album without explicit user permission. The move upset users who did not want to have U2’s album listed on their devices, which has now prompted Apple to create a process for removing the album from user’s devices.

To remove this album:

    1    Go to

2    Click Remove Album to confirm you’d like to remove the album from your account.

3    Sign in with the Apple ID and password you use to buy from the iTunes Store.

4    You’ll see a confirmation message that the album has been removed from your account.

If you downloaded the songs to iTunes on your Mac or PC or to the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you’ll need to delete them manually.

Apple warns that once the album has been removed from an iTunes account that it will no longer be available as a previously purchased album. Users have until October 13, 2014 to manually reinstall the album for free.
